Iron-Died

Hmm, is that Subject a bit of a spoiler? Maybe. If so, whatever you do, don't look down. And definitely don't click here to see the full 3-page spoiler-filled bit from TRANSFORMERS #1 (out two weeks from today).

However, if you do look, I'd love to know your thoughts on what you see. And this is only one of two momentous moments in the first issue (the second of which might involve less Energon-shed but it's more status-quo changing, anyway.

That Mike Costa doesn't mess around in trying to make his mark on TF fandom...

No one stays dead in comics...

But if he does, that's F-ed up. I like Ironhide. And Ironhide taking a round instead of Hot Rod is just wrong. WRONG I SAY!

I have high hopes for this series. Please don't let me down.

Well, Ironhide as one of my like Top 3 fave TFs getting killed is about as big a turn off for reading a series as there is.

interesting.
Ideally this is to advance the plot and to open interesting storytelling routes, rather then as "it's adult see - there's death" which infects far too many comics, TV shows and films.

But... this is IDW. I'm sure they're do a tip-top job.

One of my main hopes is that Costa ties up or at least touches back on a variety of things that got mentioned/started back during the "-tion" line.

And Ironhide AGAIN?! Man, he's running up almost as much as Optimus is! :V

Wow! Amazing start!

Good or bad, it's something to talk about; and def. status quo changing!!!!

What's up with you guys and spoilers (read the three pages before I knew what they'd be). I might as well leaf through the issue at the shop now that I know what's happening in it ;P

Frag, Mikey don't piss around. People, does Simon Furman ring any bells? He killed off loads! His first words upon coming onto Beast Wars: "Who can I kill?" Get over it.

And why are the TFs using normal speech bubbles?

I like the preview, and the boldness it injects and seeing Don's art in action is great.
The script though seems to indicate that it's a night scene whereas the colouring does not reflect that at all, so I'll be checking that when the whole comic comes in.
But colour me excited!!!

i really like Don's composition for these shots, ironhide is especially kinetic. However i do have a few nagging issues from the 3 page spoiler that i hope you dont mind if i address, first, how comes the scrip says this is a night scene when it looks at most to be later afternoon in tone? Also whilst i do like Don's more complicated and articulated designs it seems that by having large groups of areas the same color it seems to blur the details a bit (especially in the faces) it took me a few minutes to work out Hot Rods expression in the reaction shot due to it all just being a sea of grey.

I love the Action Comics #1 cover reference on page 3 (even though it's from a slightly different angle).

Don is the master.

I left some comments on the IDW forum, but I'll repeat them here. The art is excellent, but killing off Ironhide in the first issue makes me a little angry. Fictional character or not, he's one of my favorites. If I hadn't already decided to give the book a chance and not judge it by three pages, I'd be tempted to just not even bother. What's the point in getting attached to long-time characters if the writers are just going to summarily off them? Not much point at all.

I'll still give it a shot. You've killed a lot of my enthusiasm for the book though.

BTW, Chris, quite a few are wondering what happened with the colors when the script sets it at night.
