Think Tank

TANK GIRL returns to IDW in March in the form of the four-part miniseries, THE ROYAL ESCAPE. Below are the first two covers from the book's artist, Rufus Dayglo (it's written by Alan C. Martin, of course):

Ecto-plasmatic

We're doing a second GHOSTBUSTERS holiday special in February ("Tainted Love," a Valentine's Day-themed issue written by Dara Naraghi and featuring art by Salgood Sam and colors by Bernie Mireault. I'm not quite ready to show much of it yet but maybe just one panel of the Ecto-1 won't hurt...

Kill Bill

We revealed details about a new 12-part project coming in April 2010, KILL SHAKESPEARE. The project is created and written by Conor McCreery and Anthony Del Col, with art by Andy Belanger and covers by Kagan McLeod. Details about the story can be found in the press release excerpted below:
"We see this as cross between Fables, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and Northlanders," said creators Del Col and McCreery. "We're excited about the possibility of bringing these characters - perhaps the greatest ever created - to life in a way that audiences have never seen them. We've called the series Kill Shakespeare because we're going to change the way you look at these legendary heroes and villains forever."

But for much more information on the story, characters, and lots of artwork, with much more to come, check out the KILL SHAKESPEARE site itself. There, you can see a lot of character art, sketches and finished pages, in addition to signing up for updates or adding the creators' Facebook or Twitter feeds.

Let the Wrightson one in

Bernie Wrightson's pencils and inks for THE GHOUL #3 cover:

Rocket Science

When I started at IDW in 2004, one of the first things I looked to do
was put together a new collection of Dave Stevens' ROCKETEER comics. The only collection I'd ever been able to find at a con was some pricey old thing. Now, I didn't have any connections at the time, and couldn't properly reach Stevens. But here we were five years later and luckily, I'm surrounded by great people like Scott Dunbier who had those connections. So finally today--or December 16 for the rest of the world--I have that deluxe copy of Steven's ROCKETEER in my hands. In much better shape than I ever envisioned, either.

Scott had the entire book remastered, recolored, and this deluxe oversized slipcased edition further has 130 pages of sketches, fold-outs and behind-the-scenes bits beyond the story itself. It's a thing of beauty. Which just goes to show that it's less important to be good yourself than it is to surround yourself with good people. So here're some pics of what Mr. Dunbier wrought. starting with the cover and slipcase:

...and the fold-out underneath:

And another great fold-out:

Some interiors, all fully recolored by Stevens' hand-picked colorist, Laura Martin:

The book's endpapers:

And the back cover:

Robots at War

A hardcover collection of Ashley Wood's two WORLD WAR ROBOT books is on its way, slated for early January. Because it's been too long since there's been new Ash work to show here, this is the full cover for the book:

And in more Ash-related news, here's a robot design sketch from Gabriel Hernandez, one of the three new artists working on the coming ZOMBIES VS ROBOTS AVENTURE book starting in February.

Rip Reviewed

PolCulture.com reviewed our new Alex Raymond hardcover collection, ALEX RAYMOND'S RIP KIRBY, VOLUME 1: 1946-1948, saying, among other nice things about the book and about Raymond's work in general:
IDW Publishing and editor Dean Mullaney deserve an enormous amount of credit for bringing this material back into print. And on such a gargantuan scale! This slab of a book contains well over 800 daily strips, and if one enjoys the dramatic-continuity newspaper comics of the Forties and Fifties, it’s an absolute feast.
